Richard Green as Laureate at 2nd Felix Höffler Memorial Lecture
In order to honor the memory of its director, Prof. Dr. Felix Höffler, who passed away in 2019, the Institute of Energy Economics (EWI) at the University of Cologne has established the Felix Höffler Memorial Lecture. Within the framework of this lecture, an internationally renowned economist is regularly invited to engage in scientific exchange with doctoral students and to give a lecture on an energy economics topic. In 2019, the first awardee and guest speaker was Professor Shmuel Oren from the University of California at Berkeley.
The second Felix Höffler Memorial Lecture will be held virtually from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 26, 2021. Richard Green, Professor of Sustainable Energy Business at the Business School of Imperial College London, will be honored and has agreed to speak. He will talk about capacity mechanisms. Green is one of the leading researchers in the field of the economics of energy markets. Most of his current and recent research concentrates on the impact of moving to a low-carbon electricity system. The presence of a large amount of intermittent wind generation will have effects on the operating patterns of the other power stations on the system, and will change the desirable capacity mix. Different policies for pricing carbon, supporting high-cost generators, and charging for electricity transmission will all affect the incentives for investment. Professor Green has been awarded a Philip Leverhulme Prize for his work on market power and a Campbell Watkins Prize for his work on electricity decarbonisation.
Interested parties are cordially invited to attend the lecture. Participation is free of charge, but registration is requested via the EWI homepage (https://www.ewi.uni-koeln.de/en/events/fhml-2021/).
