Curriculum Vitae

Philipp A. Kienscherf is doctoral researcher at the Faculty of Management, Economics, and Social Sciences at the University of Cologne, where he conducts research on market-based control of decentralized energy resources and sustainable mobility at Professor Wolfgang Ketter’s Chair for Information Systems for Sustainable Society.

Philipp holds a B. Sc. and a M. Sc. in Business Administration & Engineering: Electrical Energy Technology from RWTH Aachen University, both with distinction. During his time in Aachen, Philipp received the Deutschlandstipendium for multiple years and also was awarded a spot on the Dean’s List several times. In 2016-2017, he studied a semester abroad in power engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague, focusing primarily on electrical drives, storage and renewable energy technologies. 

After graduating, Philipp joined Professor Ketter’s chair in 2018. His primary research focus lies on decentralized, market-based control for energy systems with a high degree of renewable penetration. While mainly anchored in the information systems field, his interdisciplinary research touches on economics (market design in particular), computer science, decision science, engineering – using various techniques such as machine learning and data analytics for the energy domain.

Philipp is a tutor for the Bachelor’s course in “Data Science and Machine Learning” (DSML) and the advanced Master’s course in “Information Systems for Sustainable Society” (IS3, formerly AESSEIS). He also co-supervises Bachelor’s and Master’s theses in his areas of expertise.
