Programming Data Science

IS3 is offering a project-based programming course for data science next summer

The Department of Information Systems for Sustainable Society (IS3) is offering the project course Programming Data Science for the first time next summer semester.

Programming Data Science complements theoretical knowledge from Data Science and Machine Learning (B. Sc. level) and (Advanced) Analytics and Applications (M. Sc. level) with practical programming skills.

You will learn

… to develop quality code in Python AND gather reproducible insights from data

… visualize data in a meaningful way AND report insights to a broad audience

… to work in a team of software developers, using typical development tools

The course is offered as one coding week from 30.3.2020 to 3.4.2020. Further, there will be a one day hackathon in early summer and a presentation date. Grading will be according to code quality, reports, presentation and team work – no exam. An own computer is necessary for the course, direct support can be offered for Mac OS and Windows; we expect that typical Linux distributions work out fine, as well.

You have no previous experience with Python? No worries, it’s taught from scratch (programming knowledge in general is highly advisable). You already know how to use Python, git, etc.? Plenty of freedom is offered to those, who want to refine their skillset.

The course can be chosen in 1. Belegphase, already.
